For anyone wanting to get a headstart for next year and who likes to read, I recommend getting a hold of a copy of Vergil’s Aeneid. The most comprehensible and reader-friendly version that I am aware of is Vergil’s Aeneid: Hero, War, Humanity translated by G.B. Cobbold. It can be ordered through amazon.com or Barnes and Noble, or www.bolchazy.com. (I am planning to make this available for you to buy next year, but getting and reading it now would be a great use of summer time.)
I hope you all are having a wonderful summer.
Dr. A.
As the year ends, I would like to take a moment to congratulate all the students who have successfully completed a year or another year of Latin. I am very impressed with the self-discipline, the creativity, the eagerness to learn, and the terrific attitude many of you demonstrated regularly throughout the year! Have a wonderful and safe summer, and check back occasionally for supplemental activities to make you an even better Latin student or to use some time productively on those long summer days, especially the rainy ones. Curate ut valeatis!
All the best,
Dr. Lisa Auanger

There is further evidence that Kecoughtan rocks, academically speaking! This year all three third year Latin students who attempted the highly acclaimed National Latin Exam earned GOLD, yes GOLD, medals (That’s summa cum laude standing!) Congratulations to Mary Dlugos,
Frank Miller, and
Michelle Thompson. Optime! (pronounced “optimay”)
In addition,
several Latin 1 students also proved Kecoughtan’s academic excellence. Congratulations to
Hernan Erazo, Alexander Preston,
Jasmyne Greenlee, and
Robert Belford
who earned magna cum laude awards, and to Kelly Conner,
Sean Dorsey, and
Jessica Nolte who earned cum laude.
Several other students did very well and were only a point or two away from an award this year. We aim to do even better next year!
Saturday January 17 several Kecoughtan students attended Hampton Roads Latin Day at Christopher Newport University in Newport News. Here they participated in a range of activities: an academic contest, learning Greek dancing, making mosaics, making illuminated manuscripts, a pizza lunch, learning about myth in film, elementary Italian, and more. Congratulations are due to Donte Ross and Hernan Erazo who won first and second place in the academic contest for Latin I, Jonathan Gibson who won fifth place for Latin 2, Jessica Carlson who won second place in arts, miscellaneous, and Donte Ross who won third place in storytelling. Go Warriors!
Eamus, Kecoughtani! VJCL spirit contest 2008!
